Deer Fencing Options

Mesh wire fencing installed around a tree and rolls of similar fencing material.

Fixed Knot Deer Fencing on Trees

We install thousands of linear feet of deer fence each year due to its low cost, low maintenance, and high durability. This extremely strong metal wire is the perfect option for woods or along a wood line. Not only does it allow you to save significantly by not needing to pay for posts or the labor to install them, but it also completely blends into the background.

This fencing is ideal for keeping medium to large-sized dogs in and preventing deer, bears, and other medium to large predators from entering your property. We bend the bottom slightly to follow the grade of the ground, making it effective in nearly any terrain. The wire is stretched extremely tight between trees to eliminate bubbles and enhance security, which is essential for effective deer fence installation.

Our fixed knot deer fencing does not harm trees or growth in any way, and we only use live trees for installation. The fencing comes in 330-foot rolls, and is available in heights of 6’ 3” and 8’. It comes in black and galvanized grey with 6” x 6” squares, which are not suitable for small dogs or keeping out small wildlife but can be layered with smaller square wire. The fencing is fastened using 3” exterior-grade screws, so it is easily movable. It is also extremely affordable, and, in many cases, we provide free clearing of a path for the fence, which includes sawing through downed trees and moving brush.

Fixed Knot Deer Fencing on Posts

If there are no trees available for use, or if you prefer not to use trees, we can use circular metal posts, circular pressure treated posts, or 6x6 pressure treated posts. However, we highly recommend the metal posts; although they may have a higher initial cost, these triple coated posts will significantly outlast wood and eliminate the need for any staining or painting.

As shown in the photo, a horizontal rail at the top and diagonal wire will be installed at the end of each run, either side of gates, major grade changes, and runs that exceed 200'. This is essential because it allows us to pull the fencing tight and prevent any bubbles (a full top rail is also available to avoid just bracing).

We offer 330' rolls, available in 6' 3" and 8' heights, in both black and galvanized (grey) finishes. The 6" x 6" squares are not suitable for small dogs or keeping out small wildlife, but they can be layered with smaller square wire for added security. The fencing is fastened with metal fence ties on pipe and with staples on wood, making it a reliable choice for fixed knot deer fencing.

Agricultural/Livestock Fence

Round Pressure Treated Posts with T posts

A fenced green field with trees and hills in the background under a cloudy sky.

Similar to our deer fence installation mentioned above, we typically utilize a fixed knot or woven wire option for our agricultural livestock fences due to their strength and durability. The squares are generally 6"x6", but we can also provide smaller square wire options. The photo above displays round pressure treated posts, T posts, and a 4" x 4" woven wire fence that we constructed for sheep.

Another distinction from deer fencing is the scale of fencing generally required for livestock and farms. To help reduce costs, we offer T posts positioned in between the main sections. These posts are driven 3' into the ground and placed on the outside of the wire to brace against any pressure from the animals.

Fixed knot or woven wire fencing is available in heights of 4', 5', 6', 3' & 8' tall, with 330' rolls. T posts are set at 15' on center, and we include a horizontal brace and diagonal wire at corners, major grade changes, either end of gates, and runs exceeding 200'.

Circular Metal Pipe

A metal gate and fence surround a dry field with a hill and bare trees in the background.

Although more expensive, we highly recommend this full metal option for agricultural livestock fence because it is by far the strongest and longest lasting choice. The photo above shows an 8' tall agricultural fence constructed using schedule 40 round galvanized pipe.

However, to help reduce costs, we also offer T posts for use in between the sections instead of using circular pipe all the way around.

This fence is available in heights of 4', 5', 6' 3" & 8' tall, with 330' rolls. We recommend setting circular posts or T posts at 15' on center, and incorporating a horizontal brace and diagonal wire at corners, major grade changes, and at either end of gates, especially for runs over 200'.
